ACTIVITIES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CLUB (2020-21)

 

A Regional webinar was organized on the 10th of February 2021 by the the Community Health Activities Club on the 10th of February 2021. Dr.Priya Ashok, Additional Professor, Department of Dermatology, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram was the resource person and the topic of the webinar was ‘Common Skin diseases in Adolescence.’ The webinar had an overwhelming response from the students in view of its cosmetic value.

A National Webinar was organised by the Community Health Activities Club on 8th March 2021 on the topic ‘Transition from Adolescence to Adulthood.” Dr. N.S. Iyer, Consultant and Former Programme Officer, UNICEF, Chennai served as the resource person for the webinar. The session was very insightful as it addressed the health concerns of adolescent students.

ACTIVITIES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CLUB (2021-22)

 

     The Community Health Activities Club organized a seminar on the 17th of February 2022 on ‘Healthy Eating for Healthy Living.’ The seminar was held in Smart Room: 67A of the Science block at 2 p.m. The resource person  Smt. Manjusha V, Chief Dietitian at Sankar’s Hospital, Kollam elaborated on the importance of various nutrients in our diet and the consequences of the deficiency of each of them on our health. An interactive session followed where the queries asked by the participants were answered

A webinar was organized by the Community Health Activities in association with The Indian Psychiatric Association, Kerala branch on the 20th of March 2022. The topic of the webinar was ‘Cyber addiction in adolescents’.Dr. Namitha Nazeer, Assistant Surgeon in Psychiatry in the Kerala State Health Services, Kollam served as the resource person. The webinar commenced at 10 a. m extending till noon. A detailed presentation on the importance of maintaining moderation in using mobile phones and the consequences of its over-usage on our social, psychological, mental and overall health was made by the resource person. Additionally, she administered a self- diagnostic questionnaire to the students to evaluate if they are addicted to the internet.

ACTIVITIES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CLUB (2022-23)

 

The Community Health Activities Club organized an Invited Talk on ‘A Sneak Peek into Viral Infections.’ Ms. Greeshma P, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology served as the resource person. The talk was held on 13th of March 2023 at 11 a. m  in  Smart room 67A of the Science Block of the campus.

Another Invited talk was organized by the Community Health Activities club on the topic ‘Medicinal plants around us.’ The talk was held at 11 a. m on the 15th of March 2023.  Ms. Neethu Vijayakumar, Assistant Professor in Botany at Sree Narayana College, Kollam served as the resource person. The talk held in Smart room 67A of the Science Block of the campus was a novel experience to both students and staff as it helped them identify the medicinal value of plants commonly seen around in our daily lives.

ACTIVITIES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CLUB (2023-24)

 

Community Health Activities Club organized an Awareness Talk on 26th of July 2023 in association with the Health Education Club. Dr. Tamilarasi Arunkumar, Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Meditrina Hospitals, Kollam served as  the Resource Person. The topic of the talk was ‘Well Women Nutrition’. The talk was held in Seminar hall and lasted for two hours from 10 a.m.

Following the camp, a thyroid checking camp was held at the Department of Zoology where the students, staff and non-teaching staff of the college attended in full strength. The names, email IDs and mobile numbers were collected at the camp and the blood results were mailed to the participants.

Community Health Activities Club organized a seminar on 10th of October 2023 in association with the Counseling cell of our college on the occasion of the World Mental Health Day. The topic of the seminar was ‘Sustainable mental health’. Dr. Fresnal Das, Assistant Professor in Psychology, at Fatima Mata National College, Kollam served as the resource person. He elaborated on the significance of mental health and the varied ways in which it could be sustained. The interactive segment at the end of the session was highly appreciated by our students.
